Wash Your PEI Sheet with Warm Dish Soap & Water

Fingerprint oils completely destroy PEI adhesion. Wiping with alcohol sometimes merely smears grease. Wash with standard dish soap (Dawn / Fairy), rinse with hot water, and dry with a clean paper towel.

Micro-Step Your Z-Offset (The Perfect Squash)

The first layer filament must be squished flat into a continuous ribbon without visible valleys between extrusion lines. If lines are round like spaghetti, lower Z-offset by -0.02mm.

Increase Initial Layer Line Width to 120%

In OrcaSlicer, Bambu Studio, or Cura, set Initial Layer Line Width to 0.50mm (for a 0.4mm nozzle) and Initial Layer Speed to 20mm/s. Wider tracks dramatically increase surface contact area.

Add a 5mm Outer Brim for High-Shrinkage Plastics

For sharp-cornered boxes, boxes in PETG or ABS, cooling thermal contraction pulls the corners upward. A 5mm brim mechanically locks the boundary to the plate.

Why does my print lift at the corners after layer 20?

Thermal contraction. As upper layers cool from 200°C down to room temperature, they contract and exert tensile leverage on the bottom corners. Keep drafts away, turn off the part cooling fan for the first 3 layers, and slightly raise the heated bed by 5°C.

Why won't my first layer stick on an Ender 3?

90% of the time, the nozzle is too far from the bed. Perform a paper test leveling on all 4 corners with bed heated to 60°C, then adjust Z-probe offset during print skirt calibration.
